Inspiration:
The Ring of Kerry scenic drive around the Iveragh Peninsula in Southwest Ireland. Its 179km long, circular route takes in rugged, coastal and breathtaking mountainous views and landscapes. Looking out at the Blue/Turquoise Ocean with the sun shining creating various shades on the water.
Ocean View is a combination of wet and dry felting techniques, these are layered and embellished with various fibres including jute, dyed silk cocoons and carrier rod. Dyed cotton scrim together with Grey wool fibres interspersed with lighter and darker wool make up the shoreline. White Organza material together with dyed silk fabric form the waves and gives definition to where the water and horizon meet. The aqua blue and green wool used on the sea texture are from Orkney Islands. The shoreline boulders and nest are constructed by using wet felting technique. Embroidered French Knots and beading added to represent lichens, mosses and natural stone elements on the boulders and shoreline rocks.
